Charles E. Banks, Sr., Founder and President
The building that houses the LTCEA was built by Charles Banks. It was his vision to construct something that would serve the East Austin Community. Charles is married to LaVerne Banks, and they are the parents of four children and seventeen grandchildren. Charles is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but has lived in Austin for 45 years. He is a retired Maintenance Supervisor with The Parking and Transportation Department at the University of Texas at Austin. Charles is also a contractor and owner of Multi-Construction and Cleaning Service, which has been in business since 1985.
LaVerne R. Banks, Vice-President/Treasurer
Reading has always been a passion of LaVerne since childhood. She often refers to her elementary school librarian's advice to her, "always read, and you will lead." LaVerne is a native of Austin, TX and a retiree of The University of Texas at Austin, where she was employed as an Administrative Assistant in the McCombs School of Business Resource Development Office. She continues to do the accounting for Multi-Construction and Cleaning Service, as well as tutoring and coordinating the LTCEA tutoring program.
Ursurla P. Banks, Secretary
Ursurla is the daughter-in-law of Charles and LaVerne Banks. She is married to Charles Banks, Jr., and they have four children and two grandchildren. Ursurla is also a Liscensed Vocational Nurse. Her child development talent that she acquired while assisting at Our Place Child Care is a great asset to the LTCEA learning program. Ursurla tutors children on Reading Fun Day which is held some Saturdays in the fall. She also tutors for the Summer Tutoring Enrichment Program (STEP).
